Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno has met with Leaders, Elders and Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State to brief them on several emerging and cogent development issues in the state.
At a meeting of PDP Stakeholders held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at Government House Uyo, the Governor who is also the Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State who took time to brief the elders and stakeholders of the Party of the milestones the current administration has reached under his stewardship as Governor hinted that he has engaged a higher gear in his pursuit of multi-sectoral development ends across the State.
Governor Umo Eno said “In the last 365 days, we have as a government made remarkable efforts to spread different development projects and interventions across the different Local Government Areas of this state. For instance, under the ‘ONE PROJECT PER LGA’, we had asked important elders and stakeholders to select projects in line with the needs of their communities and we are happy to announce that we have completed and inaugurated several of such projects, while several of them are also ready for inauguration. We have already directed the commencement of the 2nd phase of the ‘ONE PROJECT PER LGA’ with the directive that Local Government Areas who had chosen a school in the first phase should choose a Hospital in this phase. This is in keeping with my avowed pledge to Akwa Ibom people to pursue a massive programme of rural development.”
The Governor also disclosed that in Aviation development, his administration has made substantial progress and investments in infrastructure expansion, hinting that the Ibom Air brand is expecting a brand new airbus soonest in addition to manpower training of Pilots and Engineers. Pastor Umo Eno also noted that in the area of housing development and welfare of the vulnerable and elderly, his administration has built and handed over ARISE compassionate homes to the vulnerable and elderly, stressing that the government was targeting a total of 400 homes for this segment of the population.
On the forthcoming Party Congresses and Local Government elections, Governor Umo Eno said “Everything we do as we head to the forthcoming Party Congresses and Local Government elections must be geared towards steadying the PDP on the path of successive electoral conquest in Akwa Ibom State. That is why we are proposing that we must allow for inclusion in terms of gender in the spread of offices in the forthcoming Local Government election. In specific terms, we must produce at least 2 women as candidates and support them to win elections as Chairpersons of Councils in each of the 3 Senatorial Districts of the State, and in LGAs where we have a male as Candidate we must deliberately fill females as running mates and support them to win. Again if a certain LGA has 10 wards, at least 4 out of the 10 Wards must produce Female candidates and support them to become Councilors.”
The Governor further advised the Party hierarchy to adhere to principles of Zoning and push for inclusion throughout the Congresses and Local Government elections.
