FLOODGATE’ OPENS AS A’IBOM PDP SETS FOR MASSIVE RECEPTION OF DEFECTORS FROM OPPOSITION PARTIES
… It’s the Umo Eno Effect – Party Chair
Following what appears like a floodgate of defection in the camps of opposition political parties in Akwa Ibom State into the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party is gearing up for a massive reception of tens of thousands of defectors back to umbrella fold.
The State Chairman of PDP, Rt Hon (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, hinted this while briefing party leaders of the state of the party, informing them of latest developments, plans and programmes, including the recent wind of defection sweeping opposition parties in the state.
In the meeting with chapter and ward leaders of the party at the state secretariat, Atan Offot, Monday March 18, Akpan noted that the party is marking one year anniversary of its victory at the last gubernatorial poll in Akwa Ibom which was held on March 18, 2023 and saw the emergence of Pastor Umo Eno, adding that the “Umo Eno effect is penetrating opposition parties and bringing people back into PDP.”
He lauded the administration of Governor Eno, stating that the party is proud of his strides and convinced that he will lead Akwa Ibom on the path of steady growth given the pace and style of leadership which he is administering to the people.
He also pointed out that the party in Akwa Ibom State is growing in leaps and bounds especially with the recent cases of defection by former opposition party members back to PDP, a development he says is as a result of the consistency in excellence and trust by the people of the state.
The Chairman who specially thanked the chapter and ward leaders for their strategic role in keeping up with the ideals of PDP at the grassroots, announced that Friday March 22 is set aside for the grand reception of thousands of defectors to the party, while Saturday March 30 is slated for the quarterly state wide ward meeting across the 368 wards in the state.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Political Adviser to the Governor, Prince Godwin Ntukudeh, commended the party leaders for their role in sustaining the strength of the party in the state, assuring them of greater gains in the course of working for the good of the party.
In attendance at the meeting were members of the Executive Committee of PDP, Political Advisers to the Governor, Rt Hon Udo Kieran, Prince Godwin Ntukudeh, Rt Hon (Dr) Henry Archibong, Bishop Sam Akpan as well as Chapter and Ward Chairman of the party.
